At our plant-based company, we pride ourselves on creating skincare and haircare products that prioritize the well-being of both our customers and the environment. We believe in harnessing the power of nature to provide effective and safe alternatives to conventional products. As part of our commitment to sustainability and health, we consciously avoid using mineral oils, formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates, silicones, sulfates, and petroleum in all our formulations.
Curly You products have been tested to:
- Identify the biological components of the products and associated biological properties
- Determine the stability of the products
- Determine the efficacy of the products
- Determine the safety of the products with respect to cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, skin
irritation and microbial contamination
Testing is done by ARC-Roodeplaat, Vegetable and Ornamental Plants
- Mineral Oils: Mineral oils are derived from petroleum and often used as inexpensive moisturizing agents in skincare and haircare products. However, they can create a barrier on the skin that hinders its natural ability to breathe and absorb nutrients. In our formulations, we opt for plant-derived oils and butters that nourish and protect the skin without the negative side effects of mineral oils.
- Formaldehyde: Formaldehyde is a preservative commonly found in personal care products. It has been linked to skin irritation, allergic reactions, and even carcinogenic effects. To ensure the safety of our customers, we avoid using formaldehyde and instead rely on natural preservatives and alternative ingredients to maintain product stability and integrity.
- Parabens: Parabens are synthetic preservatives used to extend the shelf life of cosmetic products. However, they have raised concerns due to their potential endocrine-disrupting effects. In our plant-based formulations, we utilize natural preservatives, such as essential oils and plant extracts, to ensure product safety without compromising on efficacy.
- Phthalates: Phthalates are commonly used as plasticizers in cosmetics, including hair sprays and fragrances. These chemicals have been linked to hormonal disruptions and reproductive issues. Our commitment to plant-based alternatives means we completely avoid the use of phthalates, opting for natural ingredients that are gentle and safe for both the body and the environment.
- Silicones: Silicones are often added to personal care products to create a smooth, silky texture. While they may provide temporary benefits, they can also form a barrier on the skin that prevents natural hydration and can lead to clogged pores. Instead, we prioritize plant-derived ingredients and innovative formulations to achieve the desired texture and performance in our products.
- Sulfates: Sulfates, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), are commonly used as surfactants in cleansers and shampoos. They can strip the skin and hair of their natural oils, causing dryness and irritation. Our plant-based cleansers and shampoos are formulated with gentle, sulfate-free alternatives that effectively cleanse without compromising the natural balance of the skin and hair.
- Petroleum: Petroleum-derived ingredients, like mineral oil and petrolatum, are often used as emollients and moisturizers in skincare products. However, they are non-renewable resources and can be occlusive, trapping toxins and impurities in the skin. We opt for plant-based alternatives, such as natural oils and plant-derived butters, which not only provide excellent moisturization but also offer additional nourishing benefits.
By excluding these ingredients from our formulations, we ensure that our skincare and haircare products are gentle, effective, and safe for long-term use. Our commitment to plant-based alternatives extends beyond ingredient sourcing; it encompasses our dedication to environmental sustainability and promoting a healthier lifestyle. We believe that nature provides us with everything we need to take care of our bodies, and we are proud to offer products that embody this philosophy.
